This list is not exhaustive, though at times it might be exhausting, depending on the headspace I'm in and who I'm trying to play! Some characters may appear once, some on multiple occasions, and some might get listed here and never show up anywhere on DW at all.

***

Sintonizao: Twenty-something synaesthetic soundmage from a version of Earth where magical and mental abilities are if not well-known, then at least heard of. Hers is a highly subjective, specific sort of magic; she powers it by the colors of letters, numbers, words and musical sounds according to her synaesthesia, and the memories the colors and their triggering stimuli evoke. Short, plump, dark-haired, thick glasses. Yes, she's basically AU!me, shush.

As a note, Sintonizao's working name is Portuguese. It means tuned in or tuning in, which is very fitting for her indeed, because she is. She speaks at least three languages fluently, English, Spanish, Portuguese and possibly a couple others as well. Portuguese is her language of a) distress, b) joy or c) mellowness, and that goes for being spoken to as well as speaking it herself.

I have to be in a veeeery specific sort of mood to play Sintonizao, and chances are I'm going to need to blow off some mental steam via involved tags if she shows up in the bar. Fair warning for intensity, whatever the circumstances.

***

Taos!Sariel: A teenaged version of Sariel Rager from a Firefly universe by way of Milliways. Santo native, English, Mandarin and patois speaker. About fifteen. She was an Academy student, and now she's an Academy escapee safely in the Taos installation on Keystone Rose Earth. Telepath, gunslinger, prone to hallucinations and wariness, if not outright mistrust. Her specialist subject is military history, and it may well show up in conversation; Tavi caught her looking for a rank insignia, and she called him da ge (sir). As a note, she doesn't use her patois on just anyone, or for just any reason.

Again, I'll need to be in a specific sort of mood to play Taos!Sariel. As with Sintonizao, watch for falling narrative descriptions and general intensity, though they'll be of a different sort than Sintonizao's for obvious reasons.

***

Derrek DJ Makosa: Early twenty-something soldier by necessity from a universe where much of Europe, if not the rest of the planet, is at war. I haven't decided whether this is a Half Life-type scenario, a late-breaking variation of the second World War, or something else. DJ is American by birth, but his home base is now Vlaanderen (Flanders), Belgium. It's not a very long story, but it is a personal one. Dark hair to his shoulders, bespectacled, short and lean, usually seen in a cobbled-together blue and white uniform and carrying a weapon of some sort, though he won't use said weapon without a darn good reason. Yes, this band of Resistance fighter types is based on who you think it's based on, if you get the blue and white uniform bit. DJ might have been American once, but now his accent can't decide whether it wants to be Canadian English, British English, Dutch, French or Flemish. He switches between those actual languages all the time as well, thanks to the company he keeps and the way his mind works. Meek, nervous, prone to stuttering, extremely loyal and, for reference, homoromantic asexual and with a giant squish on another member of his Resistance cell.

Like a few of the others, I have to be in a specific sort of mood to play DJ. Again, I'll likely be burning off some specific mental steam when he's in the sandboxes, so fair warning. Yes, his universe does basically have Quick-Step as a Resistance cell in wartime Vlaanderen, shut up. And no, he's not real. Any Quick-Steppers who get mentioned can be assumed to be fictionalized versions, not the actual cyclists.

Kaelyn Broderick: Twenty-ish on average - possibly a year or two older or younger depending on when I bring her in - young woman from a Star Trek universe, TNG/DS9 era. Stellar cartographer eventually, Badlands and border colony drifter before that, in the company of six other misfits. Middling-powered receptive telepath - I know, humans don't have telepathy as a rule in canon, but genetic mutations can happen to any species. All six of her fellows have some sort of mental ability as well, though they aren't all particularly strong; some are quite low-level. She doesn't hear everything, all the time; she's likened the background sound of thoughts to the ocean, raising and lowering in volume in waves, difficult to discern as more than a general murmur. If someone is nearer than about ten meters, or is particularly loud - pain, joy, anger - she'll probably hear them more clearly. Plain, soft-featured, slightly doughboy-ish dishwater blonde, grey eyes. Kaelyn is not one to be loud or overly dramatic about something without good reason. If she yells, chances are it'll be "Medical emergency!" or "Ow!" or similar. She does not actively listen to the fine details of exactly what a person is thinking without asking permission first. There's focusing in on a person's mind in general, and then there's prying in. She has a rule: If you hear something in another person's thoughts, don't talk about it except with that person. If someone is actively intending to threaten another being's life or livelihood - say they're on their way to kill - she'll break her rule. Again, she needs good reason.

No, Kaelyn is not a rip-off of River Tam. She's much more direct in her speech than River, though she's often a little halting when she talks, and she doesn't hallucinate. Or fight. This one's fight or flight response is pegged toward the latter, or toward simply freezing up. She's the product of a dream I had, as are her six misfit fellows. I'm not sure if I'll ever bring any of them in, or if I'll even bring Kaelyn herself in.

Corporal Megan Real: Twenty-something chronoskimmer engineer from a Carmen San Diego universe a la the Where In Time game show, not the cartoon. Asian, Canadian by citizenship, Singaporian Tamil and Malay by heritage. English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil speaker, plus a little French thanks to Canadian schooling. Megan's very much a competent engineer for the tech she knows; heck if she'll fly the ship, but she'll keep it in one piece if she can. Tamil, for the record, is her language of distress/joy/other suitably powerful emotions.

What is it with me and characters with multiple languages under their metaphorical belts? For that matter, what is it with me and characters having a specific language to shift to when distressed or joyful?

***

Marla Renata Ariliano da Fortaleza: Mid-thirties Brazilian Resistance fighter from a Half Life universe. Don't kill me, Cam or Leesha? She goes by Marla, but close friends in her Resistance cell can call her Marlena. No, da Fortaleza is not actually part of her name. She is from Fortaleza though, and she uses the locational addon to gently mess with visitors. She's frankly proud of her hometown and likes to show it, no matter what number the damned Uniao Universal have given the city. Native Portuguese speaker, with a few words of a couple local indigenous languages thrown in - the equivalents of 'left, right, stop, look out, help, and go bugger off and die.' Dark hair and eyes, brown skin, healed burn scars on the insides of both elbows. Damned Combine. She's been described by a North American visitor as moving like a dancer neck-deep in ocean water, easily graceful without trying.

I have multiple other members of Marla's Resistance cell thought out, including the current commander and the badly-injured, recovering former one; damn striders dropped a building on him. If I ever bring her in, which I'm not sure I will, I may someday bring in one or more of them too. Then again, I doubt I'll ever even bring in Marla.

I really do have a thing for Portuguese, don't I? *sheepish!*

In the possibilities category of I'm listing them here, but I'm not fleshing them out in here yet:

Anais Antella: special agent of an AU 2060-ish Monacan government, somewhere between major case and FBI for comparison's sake
Joaquim 'Kim' or 'Kimi' Adria: Andorran doctor from the same universe as Antella
Talina: Thief/mage from AlterAeon, essentially a text-based D and D parody game
Valente 'Lendi' Doriano Abreu da Madeira: perfectly baseline human university student from a version of Earth, no idea what sets it apart from other Earths yet. The above name is his full one, but he just goes by Lendi. Yes, I got that designation from the baseball player of the same name. Shush.

This may be added to or subtracted from as time goes by, fair warning.
